" Shine and a high of 67 tomorrow 49 degrees right now in Chicago. You're listening to the exclusive radio home of defending American League central division champion White Sox SIX SEVENTY The Score. The next Sox broadcasters tonight at 530 on the White Sox take Aaron Cleveland. I'm Mark Brody on SIX SEVENTY The Score and SIX SEVENTY The Score --"

" It's -- is -- Chicago's portrayal SIX SEVENTY The Score. My only you know the seller's being brought to my shirt appropriators it is they're called professionals at 100 they'll serve. I actually did. Me."

" Let's get out the whole lives the aren't star hot flat and welcome and Bob brenly the Cubs TV analyst. He is that the best in the business -- out are you buddy. Roberto Carlo more well we -- delighted to talk to you because I guess some of our people need to be talked off the lead to little -- even though the Cubs have been winning quite a bit there is concerned about injuries and there is concern. About the idea that -- promised Ramirez was the last of the irreplaceable players. How dangerous is it Bob when you get guys like like dead epic Carlos Zambrano going down the new -- Ramirez and he start talking about well could you afford to lose you can't afford to lose."

" Though he certainly can't but unfortunately that's the situation now and you gotta move forward and try to make the best ever done my part and our talking about yesterday and and -- and I both agreed that -- can just keep your head above water whether that means -- 500 ball or you know playing five games over five games under whatever it is that won't keep you in that race until you start to get your pieces back healthy. It if you always have to look on the bright side is not always easy to find a bright side but the fact that Ramirez will be back in six days weeks whenever that is Zambrano going to be back soon Derrek -- is going to be back relatively soon so. They need you just have to believe that the -- you have in place if they can keep their heads above water until you get everybody back healthy that there -- out real good run in this team because we certainly didn't see anything resembling a run in the first month of the season."

" How important is it. To get this bullpen straightened out and can't be done with the current personnel in the --"

" That'd be single most important job and I think we recognize that I would assume that there are some quotes in the paper from in this morning add to that effect. That there's nothing more devastating to a ball club when your offense. Either explode or scratches and scrapes -- usually in the game. You're starting pitchers keep it close and gives you chance to win and then your bullpen comes inning gags that there's nothing more devastating. Not only in the standings but to the morale of the ballclub when that happens in Alou understands that Larry Rothschild understands that so. That is definitely going to be addressed in the very near future."

" And how do you address that -- is it simply making a move as it is it going to I mean. You can't create something that's not Baird you have to do sometime its margin -- as ever -- go on fox now we see what happened there what's the next what's next move."

" Well personally -- just. Just because you some market struggled in his first go around this year doesn't mean he's never going to contribute again to the ball club and and I think we'll probably said -- yesterday that. He's won't get some guys a shot you know this is power occasionally you can discover a piece that's that you can use dollar per year -- well into the future you bring up somebody from the minor leagues -- happens to be hot at the time like. Jose has -- you know. Basically you're hoping to catch lightning in the bottle or maybe a guy who's had a couple of shots before never made good on -- now realize this may be my last opportunity to become a big league pitcher. And -- you just hope they kick the ball in front what that outside of that. It's probably a little too soon to start plotting somebody else's roster nobody really feel like they're completely out of that at this point but. You know you have to be willing to be open minded maybe take a starter even even -- I have that double play who's pitching well bring him up here and run him out there let you know see what he can do."

" The numbers say that the Cubs have done a good job with the quality starts but when I -- test help me out here Bob. It seems as though I think the Cubs could benefit if the starters went deeper into games because. I feel is -- there there -- some talent and that bullpen but unfortunately. They get over use because the starters don't go deep into the games."

" Mind you know the quality starters kind of in the -- dad -- I mean -- it's certainly. Been borne out over the years that if you have a quality start you give your team a much better chance to win a ballgame but. I think a lot of times what we're hoping for is better than a quality start you know give us more than six innings in a ball game and hold them to less than three runs. I don't have a problem -- our rotation you know obviously the offense was supposed to score more runs to make it easier for the pitching to make it easier on the defense. That you know until we get everybody healthy that's not gonna happen so I I have no problem with the rotation. Configure the way it is right now and pitching the way they have I don't think you can ask for much more you look around Major League Baseball I don't think anybody has -- rotation has deep as the so. As far as I'm concerned that's the least of my worries."

" He's Bob brenly you hear him inland and the games and obviously. Bob is your son -- it's a son and in the minor leagues averaged -- Peoria. Yeah your that's great and you get a chance to see him today the is that better."

" Well actually they have an updated eight I'll let him. The we'll get a chance to catch him up from time to time throughout summer."

" That's great stuff that must be real trophy at Bob brenly the Cubs TV analyst at it just as as I look at where they are right now -- they're talking about the division dusty said it -- in in in spring training she missed. I'm only a few years off at -- well it's a statement when he said that you can't just. Show up and in play and play you gotta get there and you gotta play the season you gotta kind of enjoy the run whatever. What the divisions have been a health club better than people may have thought."

" Well -- in the early going I think yeah the Cardinals surprised everybody with how good they play that the reds there's certainly been a huge surprise. You know Milwaukee we knew they were going to hit the ball but they've pitched better than anybody expected but it's still a long season you know we're we're just a little over a month into this thing. And I'm not saying that like there's plenty of time to -- but. I think teams will reach their level I really don't think the reds are as good as they've played in the early going this season. I don't think the Brewers are going to pitch as well as they have policies and -- And the Cardinals from the other team that you have to be the most concerned about and I think the Cubs haven't even come close to playing the kind of ball they're capable of playing so. I -- a long way to go let's try this thing out before we crown anybody's."

" I look at the cardinals' rotation Lohse and -- we'd -- well how they do one yes."

" That's a good question I mean the Dave Duncan and Tony -- seemed to find guys every year off baseball's scrap PP you know somebody else's. Twelfth pitcher on the staff and they bring him over there and somehow remake them and turn them into productive Major League pitchers I don't know how they do it but that seems like they have a couple of guys every year. That they resurrect his career."

" A guy who had a great year last year for the Cubs was Geovany Soto and and you've been through this you know the rigors of having to call games and then. Be productive at the plate or what's gone wrong this year is there anything that from watching a topic you can see."

" First of law I was never very productive at the plate so that wasn't a big demand on me like it was on Geovany so. Yeah. Well I appreciate that that's just. It's -- it is probably not fair to blame at all on the WBZ but I just think dep but you are sort of behind the eight ball right out of spring training he came you know back for the WBZ was overweight he was out of shape. Had to have my pitching I hadn't seen a lot of -- pitching hadn't had the at bat necessary to start the regular season. And then he was thrown right into the fire and I did a great job behind the plate. It took a -- army in the come around to the point where he has now -- started to throw guys out and start to make really good aggressive throw to second base again but. -- basically didn't have spring training and I think he's starting to get closer we're starting decent -- defensively that he's rounding into shape. Offensively has been a little more of a struggle but. That you just like to hang your element back with a guy had a good years he did last year he won rookie of the year he was a consistent hitter from day one to the end of the season. It's in there they'll find its way out soon."

" He's Bob brenly you're listening to Mully and Hanley on Chicago Sports Radio SIX SEVENTY The Score. Odds are still a lot of happy things good things going on and I was saying to -- I thought. It was interesting to -- Soriano safe. I -- everybody got to step up and and he does it is if you look at some product going down. And I see a lot of quality starts it from everybody all the way around I've seen not just quality set -- good pitching from the starting rotation when Zambrano goes down there's a lot of really positive things going on this team was really hitting its stride before the Ramirez injury."

" Yeah you're absolutely right I mean him meeting with Ramirez in the lineup with Derrek Lee in the lineup even if it's just part time until that -- gets a 100%. I think Michael -- to a great job don't know their first baseman providing some occasional pop. I even though Aaron Miles hasn't hit a lot of to this point he has made some unbelievable defensive plays out there at second base turns and -- double plays. The riot has been a little bit of a surprise that he hit for a tie the averages and did early in the season and he surprised us all week ago when he started and some home runs. Bradley start to come around Soriano has been just unbelievable nearly season. Fukudome I mean I think everybody surprised what kind of start he got off to him than he's played stellar defense in center field so. As gloomy as it can look if you really step back and and and look at it as a whole lot I think it'd been a great start of the season for the Cubs and I think it's only going to get better."

" And you know nothing has as much as you talk about guys that are out guys that are hurt. This is a team that's built around a lot of different parts mean again to wasn't really the won MVP candidate last year it's not like if if if if without pujols. Goes down -- that you know Cardinals finished there's. There's seem to be spread out kind of quality to this team that would allow them to suffer through these kind of injuries."

" Well that being said there's not a lot of help outside of what we've seen already this year I mean that's. You know there's there's not really a lot of position players with a minor league level of the race to step up here and and the front line players soundly Mike call some guys and they may contribute for for a time. But as far as you know call up guys sticking him in the lineup as an everyday player I don't think we're going to see that happen I think Lou's gonna continue to patch it together with the guys he has here on the roster. Anyhow we may get it by being in the form of some relief pitchers and those guys may be starting at this time and a minor -- May be relieving in the minor league they may be playing on other rosters but. You know once again it did seem like a cliche but we can just keep our head above water stay within shouting distance of the top of the division until guys start to trickle back into the active roster. I mean this team -- had a chance stood you know to run off wanting out of 45 or 25 out of 30 AM and really put some distance between themselves in the division."

" And considering that last year was just a magical regular season where that the Cubs really weren't tested during the regular season. You think in a weird kind of way it might be a good thing for this team based on the playoff history the last two years. To have to undergo the kind of regular season at first either facing right now."

" you know he's there's certainly of that school of thought and the bottom line is there's no one way to get there there's no good you know you have to win so many games in April you have to win so many games in May. It doesn't matter you just get there. And say if you struggled early if you have some injury problems early. As long as you get to the -- that all that matters and I still think the way this division is configured in the way the Cubs are configured when everything. Falls into place the way it's supposed to if it does then you know the Cubs are going to be good enough to win this division."

" All right Bob brenly Bob thanks for the time we love your work you do a great job buddy."

" And I can't imagine anything I'd rather do on my first day off in twenty days and get up at 7:30 in the morning and talked you guys."

" Get a said Bobbitt teachers of the Bob the Cubs TV -- while I didn't realize that we -- prevent."
